Her momma started calling her “little honey bee” before she even had a name. Funny enough, this nickname ended up being a precursor to this little baby’s real name, Maya.
Like so many other couples, Alli and Louis couldn’t agree on a name. Alli was really drawn to the name Maya, but Louis just wasn’t convinced that was the name for their baby girl. Then, one day, he came home from work and said, “Alli, our little bee’s name is Maya. Name her Maya.” Why? What changed your mind? Alli was confused.
Well, that morning Alli had woken up from a vivid dream in which a bumble bee was flying all round her. It was buzzing up in her face and just wouldn’t leave her alone. The bee wasn’t an ordinary bee, it was a little girl bumble bee with blond hair and a friendly face. She told Louis about her dream while he got ready for work kind of laughing about how strange it was. That afternoon at work, Louis was telling his co-worker about Alli’s dream. “Oh, you mean like Maya the Bee,” he said. “Who?” Louis asked. “You know, the cartoon. Didn’t you ever watch it?”
Alli and Louis had never heard of this cartoon. Neither had I until Alli was telling me this story. But, I looked it up, just like Louis did that day at the office, and this is what I found:
I turns out that Maya the Bee was a popular German comic book and animated television series that was translated into various other languages, including English. Her most popular adventure? Maya the Honey Bee. I kid you not. So, when Louis found this out, he knew that the little girl he and his wife had been calling their “honey bee” was meant to be named Maya.
Maya turned two months last week. Avery and I had gone over once before when she was just a brand new little bee and it’s amazing to see how much Maya has grown in that short period of time. Her personality is beginning to shine through. One of Alli’s most endearing qualities is her laugh and I think Maya is also going to make friends easily with her sweet laughter.
Maybe I’m biased because Alli and I are friends; but, Maya is completey gorgeous. She looks so feminine and wise in this photo.
All babies are miracles, but Maya and Alli have a special story that you can read about here.
Alli – Thanks for letting me come over and take photos of the bee! I’m glad we are going through this new momma thing together and get to enjoy watching the little bunny and bee grow up. Congrats, again, to you and Louis!
